Our website may be used without entering personal information. Different rules may apply to certain services on our site, however, and are explained separately below. We collect personal information from you (e.g. name, address, email address, telephone number, etc.) in accordance with the provisions of German data protection statutes. Information is considered personal if it can be associated exclusively to a specific natural person. The legal framework for data protection may be found in the German Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG) and the Telemedia Act (TMG). The provisions below serve to provide information as to the manner, extent and purpose for collecting, using and processing personal information by the provider.
Please be aware that data transfer via the internet is subject to security risks and, therefore, complete protection against third-party access to transferred data cannot be ensured.
Our website makes use of so-called cookies in order to recognize repeat use of our website by the same user/internet connection subscriber. Cookies are small text files that your internet browser downloads and stores on your computer. They are used to improve our website and services. In most cases these are so-called “session cookies” that are deleted once you leave our website.
To an extent, however, these cookies also pass along information used to automatically recognize you. Recognition occurs through an IP address saved to the cookies. The information thereby obtained is used to improve our services and to expedite your access to the website.
You can prevent cookies from being installed by adjusting the settings on your browser software accordingly. You should be aware, however, that by doing so you may not be able to make full use of all the functions of our website.
For technical reasons, data such as the following, which your internet browser transmits to us or to our web space provider (so called server log files), is collected: – type and version of the browser you use – operating system – websites that linked you to our site (referrer URL) – websites that you visit – date and time of your visit – your Internet Protocol (IP) address. This anonymous data is stored separately from any personal information you may have provided, thereby making it impossible to connect it to any particular person. The data is used for statistical purposes in order to improve our website and services.
On the basis of the Federal Data Protection Act, you may contact us at no cost if you have questions relating to the collection, processing or use of your personal information, if you wish to request the correction, blocking or deletion of the same, or if you wish to cancel explicitly granted consent. Please note that you have the right to have incorrect data corrected or to have personal data deleted, where such claim is not barred by any legal obligation to retain this data.
This website uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. (“Google”). The information generated by the cookie about your use of the website will be transmitted to and stored by Google on servers in the United States .
In case IP-anonymisation is activated on this website, your IP address will be truncated within the area of Member States of the European Union or other parties to the Agreement on the European Economic Area. Only in exceptional cases the whole IP address will be first transfered to a Google server in the USA and truncated there. The IP-anonymisation is active on this website.
Google will use this information on behalf of the operator of this website for the purpose of evaluating your use of the website, compiling reports on website activity for website operators and providing them other services relating to website activity and internet usage.
As an alternative to the browser Addon or within browsers on mobile devices, you can click this link in order to opt-out from being tracked by Google Analytics within this website in the future (the opt-out applies only for the browser in which you set it and within this domain). An opt-out cookie will be stored on your device, which means that you’ll have to click this link again, if you delete your cookies.
We are pleased whenever our readers recommend and discuss our content on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, XING and LinkedIn. For this purpose, we use social media buttons, i.e. the buttons provided by c’t Shariff.
c’t Shariff ensures that social networks can only request data from users once these click on the appropriate button. Shariff replaces social networks’ customary “Share” buttons and protects your surfing behaviour from prying eyes. A single click on the button is enough to share information with others. You don’t have to do anything else – the webmaster has already taken care of everything. Customary social media buttons transmit user data every time a page is visited and give the social networks full details of your surfing behaviour (user tracking). For this, you don’t have be logged in or a network member. A Shariff button, on the other hand, only establishes direct contact between a social network and a visitor when the latter actively clicks on the share button. For further information, please see https://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/Datenschutz-und-Social-Media-Der-c-t-Shariff-ist-im-Einsatz-2470103.html.
We have implemented Social-Media-Buttons of the following companies:
Facebook Inc. (1601 S. California Ave – Palo Alto – CA 94304 – USA)
Twitter Inc. (795 Folsom St. – Suite 600 – San Francisco – CA 94107 – USA)
Google Plus/Google Inc. (1600 Amphitheatre Parkway – Mountain View – CA 94043 – USA)
XING AG (Gänsemarkt 43 – 20354 Hamburg – Deutschland)
LinkedIn Corporation (2029 Stierlin Court – Mountain View – CA 94043 – USA)
Facebook remarketing / retargeting
Remarketing tags of the social network Facebook, 1601 South California Avenue, Palo Alto, CA 94304, USA are integrated on our websites. When you visit our websites, a direct connection between your browser and the Facebook server is created via the remarketing tags. This informs Facebook that you have visited our website with your IP address. Facebook can thus assign the visit to our websites to your user account. We can use the information obtained in this way for our display of Facebook ads. As provider of the websites, we point out that we obtain no details of the content of the data transferred or its use by Facebook. Further information on this matter can be found in the Facebook data protection declaration at https://www.facebook.com/about/privacy/. Should you not wish data acquisition via Custom Audience, you can deactivate Custom Audiences here: deactivate Custom Audiences
